Green Product Testing

General

Every product available within today’s market has met and complied with a credible governing body’s set of code rules and minimal standards. Many different standards apply to many different types of products. Depending on the product and its use depends on the standard it needs to comply with. Some standards include:

  • off gassing
  • load standards
  • coat covering standards
  • electrical standards
  • durability
  • fireproofing standards

In today’s green building market, green building products receive "points" within the framework of an established program or standard. It’s up to the manufacturer (if they produce an environmentally sustainable product) to provide documented proof of the sustainable attribute(s) of their product(s). Builders, code officials, lumber yards, designers, engineers, verifiers, architects and consumers all need this proof which demonstrates that the product has been independently verified as having the sustainable attributes claimed by the manufacturer. This is how points are received under any credible green building program.
