National Association of Home Builders Green Building Standard & Wisconsin Green Built Home Co-branded Certification

If you live or build in the state of Wisconsin you may be aware of Wisconsin’s regional green building program, Wisconsin Green Built Home™ (GBH). However, you may not be aware that there is now a national green building standard that ‘trumps’ Wisconsin’s regional program. The National Association of Home Builders’ National Green Building Standard, or NAHB Green, is approved by both the International Code Council™ (ICC) and the American National Standards Institute™ (ANSI).

By building to the NAHB Green Standard, both certification logos (NAHB Green and GBH) can be displayed on the home’s certificate since the criteria for both programs have been met. Go for national recognition! But feel comfortable in having Wisconsin’s regional and very recognizable logo appear on your NAHB Green issued certificate.

Wisconsin builders wanting to pursue a co-branded certificate must do the following:

  • Log onto NAHBGreen.org and use the Scoring Tool to calculate the point value (and corresponding 'color level'; bronze, silver, gold, etc...) of your project.
  • Contract with an NAHB Research Center-approved Verifier such as TECO.
  • All paper documentation should be kept as documentation proof. Related program fees should be sent directly to the NAHB ($200 for members/$500 non-members).

At the completion of this process you will receive a certificate from the NAHB that verifies the home's compliance with the NAHB Green Standard that displays both the NAHB Green and GBH logos.
